Maternity Bars

*aka "the bar that Michelle Obama wants to outlaw"


My 7-month pregnant sister inspired me to make these bars. Although they are intended soley for pregnant women, I guess that technically anyone can consume them, if he/she is interested in putting on an extra 5-10 pounds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YES, THEY REALLY DO HAVE THIS MANY CALORIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's the ingredients: (although the bars were created with the intent that only one be eaten at a time, in the likely event that a pregnant woman might consume 2-3 in one sitting, I have intended some healthful ingredients such as wheat germ to provide some important nutrients)


Maternity Bars
*Preheat oven to 350 degrees*

9 (full sheet) crushed graham crackers, crushed
4 T butter
~mix the graham crackers with the butter and place in an 8" by 8" pan lined with parchment paper~

1/2 cup coconut
1/2 cup dried fruit (such as cherries, golden raisins)
1/2 nuts, toasted (pecans or almonds or cashews)
2 T wheat germ
1/2 cup white chololate chips
1/2 cup butterscotch chips
~layer these ingredients on top of the crushed graham crackers and butter~


2/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
~pour this over the layers and put in the oven for 22 minutes~

Topping
3 cups miniature marshmellows
3/4 cup milk chocolate chips (or dark, if that is what you prefer)
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 T butter
3/4 cup rice krispies
~pull the bars out of the oven after 22 minutes, put the marshmellows on top, and then place BACK into the oven for 3 minutes. Melt the chocloate, PB and butter in a saucepan, mix in the rice krispies, and then smear this chocolate mixture over the melted marshemllows.

DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
